Routers use router protocols:
RIP (routing information protocol)
OSPF (open shortest path first)
IGRP (interior gateway routing protocol)
IS-IS (intermediate system to intermediate system)
- Each router-to-router protocoldetermines
the best path differently.
- Access routers are internetworking devices. A few WAN ports (leased line, auto dial-up or microwave or...) link remote LANs.
